"Tavern or chantry first?" I ask as we reach the outer limits of Lothering.
"Chantry is closer," volunteers Morrigan.
"Chantry it is," decides Angel. We've passed a camp of refugees and are through the main gate when we're halted by a Templar.
"Move on if you can. Lothering's lost."
"Well, isn't he just a ray of sunshine?" I whisper to Angel who tries to supress a smile.
"Unless you plan to physically restrain us I suggest you move out of our way, fool," says Morrigan, stepping up to the Templar. He seems taken aback, though I'm really just guessing since he's wearing full Templar plate, including the helm. For al

Everything is bathed in the red glow, and we are all but spectators as the Chantry is reduced to ashes in mere seconds. All the planning all the lies...it is time to make the world change forcefully. There is yelling, arguing and Fenris leaves Issac's side. I assumed as much would happen. Gone is any trace that mirth ever crossed my loves face for all that is written upon it is horror and anger. The end comes. We don't regret this, we did what we had to do...I just wish that he had stayed away...heeded my warnings. And now he will take the final Justice into his own hands. "Watch your step," remarked the elf neutrally. The mage didn't answer; Fenris withstood the temptation to glance back over his shoulder. He had no doubt that Anders' eyes were glaring balefully at his armoured back. If looks could kill... A small smirk caused the corners of his lips to quirk upwards. At least whilst the mage was engaged in fierce hatred of the elf, his mind was no longer wholly upon his wound or the pursuing darkspawn. And it had a handy side effect of shutting him up.

Today, he had his hands work cut out. There had been a collapse in one of the old mines, and many miners were injured – and these were just the lucky ones. He barely found some rest between fixing bones and closing bone deep cuts, and if he found some, he had to pound ingredients or mix potions to ease the pains.

They stood at the gates of the great city, staring into the void that surrounded them. Smoke billowed from the buildings burning inside. The wind brought it to their noses along with the smells of death and blood. The bodies of their fallen comrades littered the ground. In the distance, the sounds of battle rang: swords hitting swords, arrows piercing through flesh, the cries of the dying and the victorious.
The two women standing at the front of the army stared up at the gates. Their eyes fixed upon the twisted metal and splintered wood that once stood glorious, showing all who saw them that they were approaching the vast city of Denerim.

The market was just as lively as ever as Zevran stepped from the alienage gates. He wasn't in much of a good mood to look around. He wanted to get to this meeting as quick as possible. To see what the master wanted. As he walked through the bazaars towards the tavern, something then caught in his nose, making him stop dead in his tracks. There was only one smell that could get him to do that.
He turned towards the direction the smell was coming from and saw a small bazaar that had displayed many things from other countries. He saw jewelry, silks, cutlery, and... boots. His eyes widened, his mouth watered as he gazed upon them. Ze

Morrigan's assessment of the situation wasn't far off. The town of Lothering might have once been a nice little hamlet, but whatever charm it possessed had been lost to the effects of the coming Blight. Dozens of people milled around outside the gates, begging a small group of templars for help. She had stripped his armor to rest to the left of the cave along with his sword and his shirt. She hadn’t seen the fight beforehand as her eyes had been closed but she deduced at some point the dragonling was able to slash Cullen’s side. Molly Jones Chapter 10: The Long Road
The portal opened into the ruin. Two months ago, when Molly first saw this place, she had an almost overwhelming urge to explore the oddly domed building. But sadly, as was often the case, her imagination was far more satisfying than the reality. Glass from the vaulted ceiling was scattered all over the ground. And as evening had already fallen, the walls and torn tapestries were only illuminated by the soft, silvery glow that the moonlight provided. Walking past the eluvian, Molly noticed a doorway leading to the outside of the structure. There, stood a large oak tree, with a small, circular bench at its base. Funny, I never noticed that before, she thought, before turning to Zevran. “You know, I think we should stay out here.” “It’s rather lovely, know?” he said, planting his bag on the bench. “In any case, it is a good place to rest…and perhaps, a good place to die.” Molly opened her mouth to say something, but no, she could not offer him any honest reassurances or pretty lies.
It is almost surprising how swiftly Fenris finds himself adjusting to a new normal. The campfire hissed and sputtered, water rebounded from the rock walls ringing the camp, and their comrades bolted for the dry safety of their tents. Alistair snatched up his stew, Wynne her books, Oghren his mead, and all of them vanished behind the hide flaps so swiftly that a watcher might have thought a mage had somehow erased them from existence. The Shape Of The Soul - Part I
A/N - This is a Dragon Age AU story inspired by the His Dark Materials books by Philip Pullman, in which all humans' souls live outside the body in the form of an animal, called a daemon, that corresponds to the personality of the person. The daemon has no fixed form in childhood, and can shapeshift freely, but will eventually settle into a single form, usually around puberty. I've done my best to match daemons to the companions of Origins and Awakening; no further knowledge of Pullman's books is needed to understand the story, but I've added explanations of my reasoning in the description. (I've adopted the idea from other fans that dwarves
This time was different.

There wasn’t a time that crossed Imogen’s mind that compared to this. Giving into her suitors desires had never been an issue. Not in the past. It satisfied someone. Her mother. Father. Distant, insanely rich noble cousins who read too many romance novels. It made someone happy. Meaningless, to say in the least. And that’s what made it easy.
Nerves were never necessary.
Arwen Lavellan awoke to the sound of silence. Sweat soaked into her clothes, and pinned her hair against her forehead. The dampness of the underground cave wasn't enough to relieve her of her beating heart as it hammered in her chest. For a moment she winced against weariness as it fought to overcome her, and drag her back into another restless sleep; where she'd spend hours tossing and turning, only to lose to droopy eyes and shoot up into a sitting position once the nightmares creeped in. She was still drenched in darkness, and lost in the abyss that had, for weeks, fed on her life.
